Fish Market fro m The Grand Canal and Interior, Venice Artist: Alan Cotton

The time to draw in the Old Fish Market is early in the morning, when it is at its busiest with traders and shoppers. To keep the fish cool they frequently spray them with water, so the floor is always wet and reflects the people, stalls and the scarlet blinds that drape the cathedral like arches. I have made dozens of drawings and pastels here, from which groups of paintings have resulted. These are two separate drawings on one page of my drawing book, but are illustrated separately in the book
Drawn to Paint.
